A nice spring weekend

Everyone in my house is so anxious for Spring weather.  We are starting to get it little by little and we are certainly taking advantage of the sunny days.  This weekend, we all had fun being outside.  Mitch put up a tent in the backyard so we could "go camping".  Jaxton thought this was amazing.  We ate lunch in the tent and pretended to take a nap.  Mitch mentioned fishing and now Jaxton wants a fishing pole.  He is such a little boy now.  He wants to be just like Daddy and he's into everything.  He's so cute to watch.  I feel like he's a different person every day sometimes.  He just learns so much all the time.  He has now realized that my name is actually "Amy", not "Mommy" so, he asks me all the time now, "Mommy, you name is Amy?".  I tell him that it is but to him it's Mommy.  Sometimes he's accepting of that answer and other times he insists upon calling me Amy because that is my real name.  Not to mention, since Cynthia calls me Amy, then why shouldn't he, right?

As the weather tends to still be chilly in the evening, we made a campfire in the backyard and made s'mores.  Jaxton had fun getting sticky and was insistent upon sharing his chocolate with me.  This was rough for me since I gave chocolate up for lent.  He didn't really understand that whole concept so I told him that I promised God I wouldn't eat it until Easter.  He seemed to understand that and made me promise that on Easter we would have s'mores and drink hot chocolate together.

I know that spring weather tends to make adults want to get into the cleaning mode but I've never really realized that it applies to children as well.  It seems to get to my kids anyway.  I'm not sure if I could say the same for everyone elses.  Kayla could not get enough of helping me with the laundry and Jaxton was all about windexing.

I can Stand!

Kayla can stand all by herself now... finally.  She did it once before, about a month ago, and she hasn't done it since.  On Saturday, though, she stood up right in the middle of the kitchen with no help from anyone or anything and she has done it multiple times since then.  She even knows that it deserves a round of applause from everyone and so she has learned to not only stand up, but clap for herself while she does it.  It is the cutest thing to watch.  I love when little ones feel accomplished and proud of themselves.  The expression on their face when they know that they have done something amazing is priceless. I've yet to snap a picture of it but, as soon as I do, I will post it.

Success!

The corned beef and cabbage turned out so good!  Jaxton liked it too, which was surprising to me, because I didn't think he would.  This gives me courage to learn other crockpot recipes.  I now have a whole other world of dinner options opened up to me and I am so thankful :)

St. Patrick's Day

I was so excited to attempt to make corned beef and cabbage today and I didn't have time to go to the market yesterday.  Since I don't really want to wait a whole year to have it again, I think I will cheat and make it tomorrow.  I'll be honest, I'm a little scared.  I've never used a crockpot so we'll see how my little experiment turns out.  If anyone has any words of wisdom, I will gladly accept them.

Jaxton, stars, and ice cream

Last night I took Jaxton out for ice cream... just me and him.  It was so much fun and he was so cute to watch.  Lately he has been telling me that he is sad and he needs hugs and kisses.  I think he misses when it was just me, Mitch, and him.  I asked him if we paid too much attention to Kayla and he told me "yes, I'm sad".  It broke my heart.  Needless to say, I thought it very important that the two of us have some alone time, so I had Mitch stay with baby Kayla and I took Jaxton out for some ice cream.  Our ice cream parlor of choice was cold stone creamery and, on the way there, he was so amazed by the stars.  He told me that they were pretty and asked if I would take one out of the sky so he could keep it.  Then we walked into cold stone and he thought it was so great that we could pick our ice cream and put whatever we wanted in it. We had sweet cream ice cream with reeses peanut butter cup chunks in a chocolate coconut dipped waffle bowl.  I think that the ice cream was bigger than his whole face and he was so dang excited!  We sat down and shared a few bites and then he couldn't wait to get home to share it with Mitch and Cynthia.
I just love that all it takes to make a little kid happy are things like stars, ice cream, and sharing.

A slumber party and a snow day!

Yesterday I took the kids to Mom's house to visit with everyone. When we left our house it was just snowing lightly and it wasn't sticking to the ground. By the time we got up to Mom's house we had the windshild wipers going as fast as they could go and the ground was covered. It's a good thing that I packed the diaper bag extra full because we ended up having a surprise slumber party at Grandma's (grandma to the kids, that is) house! Jaxton was so excited to sleep in the same room as Uncle Mark. It didn't last too long though. Me, being the picture fanatic that I am, had to go in and take one of Jaxton. The flash woke him up and it was all downhill from there. Mom, Mark, Jaxton, and I all ended up sharing a bed just so Jaxton would even consider laying back down. He didn't fall back asleep until something like 5:30/6:00am and then was awake again once Kayla woke up. All I have to say is thank goodness for Mom. She eventually kicked me out of the bed so that I could get some sleep. I ended up in Mark's bed while the rest of them continued to share. Wheww, what a night!

This morning we woke up to a winter wonderland and had lots of fun playing in the snow. Jaxton helped his Uncle Mark build a snowman named Bob. It was great fun...

The funny things that Jaxton chooses to be intrigued with...

Jaxton is so funny. He has come to the realization that we all have nipples. A few days ago, at the dinner table, he just blurted out, "I have nipples, mommy has nipples, baby Kayla has nipples, sissy has nipples, and daddy has nipples!" I couldn't help but laugh. It was so funny!
Ever since then, he feels the need to point it out regularly.

It's been a while

Well I feel like it's been forever since I've posted anything. It's so wierd how life just seems to pass by so fast. I lose track of time. I have been anxiously awaiting the birth of my sweet baby niece, Payton, and she is finally here! Congrats Brenda and Eric!!! Life in the Scorsone household seems to just be the same as usual. Work, home, work, home...

The kids are constantly changing. Jaxton is so close to being fully potty trained. He seemed as though he was regressing for a few days but I think he's back on track now. If only we could master the art of not peeing at night... that would be amazing. Baby steps I guess. He's very in tune to everyone's emotions and he's figured that if I'm upset with him all he has to say is, "I just love you, mommy", and I won't be mad at him anymore. This worked at first but I'm learning to stay strong through his cuteness. Sweet boy... I can't help but love him.

Kayla is, as always, into everything. She still loves the bathtub and, even if there's no water in it, she still tries to climb in. She was successful once when we weren't looking. There was, of course, no water in it (We would be looking if there was). Being that it was an empty tub this made for a not so soft landing. Between that and the fact that she has discovered the toilet paper roll, we now have to leave the bathroom door shut at all times.

She stands now too, kind of. She's not really brave enough to let go of anything and stand solo. She did stand up by herself once with no support, but once she realized she was standing, she fell right on her bum. It was cute. And she loves to walk while holding onto our fingers. I can't believe how big she is already.
